Buffy The Vampire Slayer (DVD) Review

The brainchild of writer Joss Whedon, Buffy The Vampire Slayer originally entered American pop culture as a full-length feature film, starring Kristy Swanson, in 1992. But creator Whedon felt that the project never quite did justice to the full scope of his vision, so he managed turn the film into a television series in 1997. The result of Whedon’s increased artistic freedom is a series that has enjoyed both critical acclaim and audience notoriety. Nominated for 14 Emmy’s during its seven year run, the show managed to win only two (both in 1998 for Outstanding Makeup and Outstanding Music Composition in a television series). Yet, the true success for Buffy The Vampire Slayer is indicated by the massive success of the show’s long run, strong DVD sales, and the overwhelming success of the series spin-off Angel?

Sarah Michelle Gellar plays the title role of Buffy Anne Summers, a teenage girl who stands alone among her generation as the “chosen one” able to “stand against vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer?” But Buffy is not alone in fulfilling her destiny as a slayer of vampires. She also receives help from the high school librarian, Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), who is a Watcher – the one chosen to train and guide slayers on their developmental path. In addition, new friends Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan – of American Pie fame) and Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon) quickly uncover the truth of Buffy’s destiny, and they often aid her in defending the world against evil forces?

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVD offers a number of exciting episodes including the series premiere “Welcome to the Hellmouth” in which Buffy and her mother arrive in Sunnydale, California, trying to escape their past. But Buffy quickly learns from the school librarian that the small town sits atop a “hellmouth” about to bring forth a master vampire. When her secret is revealed to new friends Willow and Xander, the three must work together to keep the master vampire from using his vessel to enter their reality? Other notable episodes from Season 1 include “The Harvest” in which Buffy prepares to face down the master vampire’s henchmen so she can stop the harvest (a ceremony which will free the Master), and “I Robot, You Jane” in which Buffy and the Scooby gang discover a demon trapped in the school’s computer network?

New Moon Now Showing

The 20th of November marks the beginning of another chapter in Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel. Twilight saga: New Moon finally is rolling as it premiers today on cinemas

Prior to the movie roll, three trailers were presented at different intervals on awards show. The first glimpse was previewed during the MTV Movie Awards for 2009 showing the dramatic transformation of Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, into a warewolf. In the said awards night, the first installment of the series won five awards and considered the star of the night.

The second Installment of the Twilight Saga wished to gain or at most exceed the expectations of viewers which have grown very much excited over the past few months awaiting New Moon.

Michael Sheen
From the warewolf Lucien who led the rebellion against the vampire Lords in Underworld he now takes the role of Aro, the leader of the Voluturi, a group considered as the government for vampires all over the world. Since the beginning of announcing him as Aro in the movie there have been speculations that this may ruin his career as he takes on the role from a lycan to a vamp. However it can’t be denied that most of the actors that became part of this franchise have surely gone way higher than they were before. Surely there’s forgiveness from lycan fans for Michael; but it will definitely earn him a new breed of fans at the vamps side.

More of Jacob Black
A background check on the movie Twilight will say that Robert Pattinson is a definite star however the sequel has shown more of Taylor Lautner. Let’s just say that the part which made the book boring actually made the movie exciting as the warewolf in Jacob gave a more exciting twist. Cheers to Taylor for a job well done.

Four stars
On its premier, the movie New Moon received a four star review however as things may go well for the fans the opposite may not be so from the outsiders. Firstly the film is lengthy and Robert may need more extra juice in his acting; then again on the positive side he’s a walking manikin and that’s what the Edward in the book asked for.

There’s still more search for people on their opinions on the movie. Still this is one to be watched especially after its improvement from the first part. ‘Till next time…ciao!

How to Write a Novel – Writing Your Own Bloodsucking Vampire Novel

Vampires are back in a big way, and the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer has sparked the imaginations of many aspiring authors. I’m assuming you’ve read the book and seen the movie, and now you’re all excited to learn how to write a novel like Twilight. Well, I’m going to burst your bubble right here and now – ping!

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I’m sure that Stephenie Meyer thinks it’s kind of cool that so many people love her work, but, as an aspiring writer, you should not want to write a book exactly like hers.

Why? You say.

Because, anybody who reads it will just think you’re a big copycat, that’s why. Of course, this won’t stop the slew of imitators coming out with their own badly written versions of the popular Twilight books. But, your novel doesn’t have to be one of them.

The truth is, Ms. Meyer has done her share of fiction reading, and still managed to come up with a unique story in the crowded vampire genre. Sure, people are ragging on her for not being a great writer, but whether they liker her writing style or not, her characters and story have some unique qualities.

If Ms. Meyer’s story didn’t have some special uniqueness, then it wouldn’t stand out from all the other vampire romance novels – and there are lots of them. As an aspiring author, what you really want to do is capture the same kind of magic that her story has. Creating this originality means you need a good imagination and willingness to expand on the vampire legend a bit.

I know this because I’ve written my own black vampire novel. I’m from a different generation, so I was inspired by the Ann Rice vampire series, which taught me that you can make vampire characters behave and say things that go beyond old stereotypes. I mean, having a vampire wear a cape and go around saying “I want to suck your blood” is quaint now days. Read the rest of this entry »
